Monochrome Bottles telling a Story

The theme on 13th of October 2011 at Aquarelmere was to paint a still life with monochrome color scheme. The week before I had seen Jaap work on painting glasses so I wanted to try that too. I brought with me three transparent glass bottles and I placed them on a cloth.

Last year I made a series of paintings of vases grouped differently.

It turned out that the image where not all vases are “packed” together is the most interesting to me. I thought I might be able to create a similar effect one more time. So the idea here is to give associations of some kind of relationship between the objects. Two bottles are standing nearer to each other than the third. It is like you could ask “what are you talking about?” to the bottles but then it is just bottles.

If it was peoples and not bottles standing like that what would the situation be? One person informing two others about something or is it two parents having something to say to their son or daughter? Let your imagination finish the story!

Before I started to paint I made a sketch with charcoal. For the painting I decided to use Paynes Grey and Indigo. With that combination I could make intense contrast. If I used burnt sienna it would not be possible to make it so dark.

A commend I got on this was that the bottles looked “cold”. I suppose this is correct.

I was born 1967 in Stockholm, Sweden. I grew up in the small village Vågdalen in north Sweden. 1989 I moved to Umeå to study Computer Science at University of Umeå. 1995 I moved to the Netherlands where I live in Almere not far from Amsterdam.

Here on this site I let you see my creations.
