Grand finale of model and portrait course 2010

Then came the evening of the grand finale of the course at de Kunstlinie -model and portrait painting 2010. I had enjoyed my time and I really appreciated the help I got from Iwona. The last evening of the course was actually in the beginning of 2011 because the course had a couple of breaks for holidays etc so it had been running into the next year.

The place de Kunstlinie is lying at the shore of the city. This is a toplocation… for a shopping mall. From the very beginning I could not understand that the city could have all this good stuff at such a new and magnificent giant concrete, steel and glass building reaching out into the lake. After I finished the course there appeared a discussion in the city about the costs for running de Kunstlinie. Activities like these that are less than self-sustainable amble on in some kind of oblivion zone until someone are volunteering to disconnect the life support. If this can happen then it will happen. That is what is going on right now. The prices for the courses are higher. If they are higher fewer people are coming. Then the prices need to be increased even more or there will be no courses because there are too few attending. In the end only the richest and most fortunate can come and are they really in a need for a city sponsored leisure activity? Don’t get me wrong here. I like this place. I want to attend more courses by Iwona. More precisely in November this year when I really hope there will be a new course by Iwona. But I don’t like the feeling of taking part of something that is sponsored by the city. Actually I don’t care but if the course was held in a much cheaper location I would be equally happy. That way the city could turn this thing into a shopping mall and I would not mind.

Oh well I am not to decide on things like these. At the end of the gallery at de Kunstlinie there are 4 by 4 meters big windows towards the water. In the evening these windows are reflective. Since the model was dressed this time it was okay to let the curtains open. Had she been naked the curtains had been closed. I was interesting in painting the model and the mirror image in the window of the model. A little bit like they do at de Stoker sometimes. This evening colors were black, white and brown. I captured the face of the model quite well. This is a powerful painting.

I really hope there will be a course again in November this year by Iwona.
