Sea container is empty! |
Seacontainer on sale
This week we put the seacontainer on sale. We received the scaffold that has been lent out for two years. I worked on the UI of the lyrics-editor.
Monday 13 October
I had enough sleep last night, but I did not sleep well. Today, both DW and I worked from home, and I had a good, productive day. It was completely overcast and not that inspiring. I heard that Hamas had released hostages.
In the evening, I looked into the email again. I need convenient access to the database on the server, so I decided to use Heidi SQL, but it did not work.
Tuesday 14 October
Today we both went to the office. In the afternoon, DD arrived together with DW, and we all went home.
DD and DW cooked the dinner together.
In the evening, I worked on creating access to the Heidi SQL program via SSH. It worked. I was so happy about this, I donated 20 euros to Ansgar Becker, who wrote the program.
Wednesday 15 October
Today I worked from home in the morning. DW had a day off. After work, I asked DD for help with improving the user experience of the lyrics-editor.com app. DD had plenty of suggestions to make the interface less cluttered and calmer.
We had a family dinner with all four of us: DW, DS, DD, and me. We had beetroot risotto, it was great!
In the evening, I continued working on the new version of the lyrics editor and got it working. It needed some more testing, but now it looks better. I am unsure of some small things, but that will be fixed in due time.
My bursitis is almost gone by now!
Thursday 16 October
Today, when I woke up, I tried to be as quiet as possible so that our guest DD could continue sleeping. Not that she has any problem sleeping much longer than I do. I made breakfast as silently as possible. I hope it was appreciated.
DW worked from home, and DD stayed until the afternoon. She sewed with DW's sewing machine. Then she took the bus and the train to her own place.
I went to the office in the morning by car. I am much better from the busitis, but I decided not to try anything extra. There was a colleague from another office, and it was nice to meet her.
The car has extra sounds. It is similar to the situation we had earlier this summer with sounds from a wheel. I would not like it if the situation were repeated, but of course, it has to be the same thing.
I could try lyrics-editor.com on a colleague's iPhone, and it worked the same way as on DW's old iPhone. So I have to change the UI to work better on iPhone. On Android, I could make the bottom panel move up when the keyboard was displayed. That is not possible on an iPhone. I have an idea of what I have to do. I will create an expandable menu, and in that same panel, I can place the lookup button.
Friday 17 October
Today I had a day off and I decided to have a relaxed day. The bursitis is over now. It feels like I healed from it in an unlikely, fortuitous way. I learned about the bursitis pockets and their function. The human body is fantastic. I programmed the user interface of the lyrics editor. I got the expandable menu working. It looked better, and now if it works on all platforms, it is done. I have to do testing.
I moved the sheep from the northwest side of the property outside the dyke to the southeast field in front of the house. That is the field that I tilled this spring. It never got any grass. There is some salad mix growing in this field. To get the lawnmower out of the barn, I had to extend the platform outside the double doors of the barn. That worked!
We went to the neighbors' to celebrate a birthday. I had a day off, so I stayed longer, and DW went back after a while to continue working. It was nice to small-talk and catch up on stories in the neighborhood.
Saturday 18 October
This morning, I tried the lyrics editor on various platforms. I had to fix some issues. On Android, the sticky top bar is working. It is working even if the keyboard is open, and that is essential because at that point you might want to look up a word. This is not working on iOS. Here, when the keyboard is open, the entire page shifts upward, and gone is the lookup button. You cannot have it sticky to the bottom either because the keyboard is opening over the bottom of the page. I found a person who implemented a solution to having a sticky top panel stay visible when the keyboard is open, even on iOS. I will not implement this just yet. I have other things to do before I come back to this issue.
It is a pity it took me an entire day to move the lookup button from one failing place on iOS to another failing place. I could have kept it at the first failing place. At least the page looks much cleaner now, that's good.
It is funny because on iOS, it is possible to combine shift and enter, and the webpage can detect that. That is how a section is made on desktop and iOS. That is not possible on Android due to a bug. There, you have to have a special button for this. All platforms have their quirks.
I am done with the user interface for now. I will return to the email of the server. That way, I can make new functionality in the lyrics editor in the future, without email, it is not possible. But first, I got some work to do outside.
I took out the lawnmower and scraped out the grass under the cutting bed. When it was time to drive it back into the barn, I decided to film it because now I have so much space on the web server, why not make a little film about it?
86 Megabytes movie. Easy!
The rest of the day, I worked on cleaning up the area on the north side of the house. Our scaffold will come back tomorrow, and for that, I want it in a good place. First, I was thinking it could be returned along the road. Then I realized that the person returning it can also put it in a place where I want it.
We had a heap of scaffold planks on the west side of the house. This heap is now in the way of the lawnmower. Another issue with the heap is the nettles growing around it. The third issue is that I have not laid the planks in a way that they stay dry, so they are rotting. I want the new location to solve most of these issues. It was here that I had my salad beds.
I started building the swwww2alad beds on 10 April 2022. It was fun in the beginning. It was less convenient to have gardening efforts behind the house, around the container, and then in front of the house. This season, we streamlined the efforts and have one garden in front of the house, and that is it. The bed has been lying unused this season. Now I took it apart and put the pieces in the trailer so we can bring it to the recycling center.
In this place, we will have a new place for the scaffold planks. It will be elevated. I put the scaffold holders as a base. Then I moved the planks from the old heap and placed them in the scaffold holders.
Now I was ready to receive the scaffold. It has been used by three neighbors. We lent it out on 7 October 2023. Tomorrow it will come back.
I looked into the issue of arranging a multidomain and multiuser email system and it will not work with the version of the server I have. For that I will need a newer server. I looked into how it would be to download the server and upgrade it locally and also that is problematic. I decided to buy a new server with a higher version. Then I will migrate all the functionality to the new server and put it live when ready. Then I can turn off the old server when it is not needed anymore. We will see how this goes.
We now have the sea container for sale at two local platforms and one national platform. It is not sure how the sale will go.
In the evening I helped our neighbors unload the scaffold. It was many parts and it was pitch dark when we stopped. There are more parts to be brought but that is for another time.
This weeks blog is not that long. I was busy with the server and we had visits. Generally speaking I am less able to blog whe there are people around. This with the scaffold came rather suddenly but it is back so I can do things with it if I like.
I wrote 1572 words this week. Welcome back next week!
